Local Convention Preview & Convention Compendium –Brodie L.

Dear Comrades,

Tomorrow is one of our biggest events of the year: Annual Local Convention. This is by far our largest official meeting, and this year we’re expecting 60+ people. It’s still not too late to RSVP! We will begin at 12:00pm with a social, free food, and child care! It is an excellent opportunity to meet your comrades and discuss the topics of the day.

At 12:30pm we will promptly ring in as we have a packed agenda. Don’t worry though! We will have a recess for leg-stretching and appetite-sating. You can find a breakdown of all Bylaw Amendments and Resolutions that will be in our new business in our official Convention Compendium 2026, which I do recommend perusing before coming to Convention so you’re not rushing to read multi-page documents while they are being discussed. There promises to be important and lively discussions about the political direction of our Chapter, and your opinion matters!

We have a Bylaw Amendment to redesignate At-Large as Campaign Coordinators, so that new Campaigns are not mandated to put someone up for LC, which has historically been an issue.

There are resolutions to:

• create a May Day Campaign to gear up for the 2028 General Strike;
• to enact an Electoral Strategy for 2026-2029;
• to create a Democracy Commission that would research other Chapters’ best practices, Bylaws, procedures, and rules so we can revamp our some of our own that we may be more democratic and eliminate rules that no longer serve us;
• and a Resolution to Endorse Comrade Lauren Jewett in her run to unseat Representative Steve Scalise in District 1.

After the Convention adjourns, we hope to see everyone, whether you came to Convention or not, at Skeeta Hawk Brewery on 455 North Dorgenois, only a 5 minute drive from Convention!

Landry/Murrill Recall Campaign: Monday Night Collection Events

New Orleans DSA is collecting signatures to recall Governor Landry and AG Murrill, Mondays at 2372 St Claude Av from 5-8pm. We’ll do this every Monday, and we encourage anyone who wants to help to fill out this form and reach out to the Recall Campaign. If you know of a location that would hold a recall signature drive, please join us on the Discord server and we can help you build out that idea.

More Chapter Orientation Times

You spoke! We listened! We are now adding two weekday Chapter Orientations per month. Not everyone has free weekends, so we are expanding to ensure we can connect with as many comrades as possible. Join us on the 3rd and 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30pm where you can learn about DSA, engage, and get better plugged in. Those new to the Chapter are highly encouraged to attend, as well as current members to lend insights, answer questions from new members, or even learn something new yourself!
