Free Your Neighbors: The Undue Medical Debt Campaign
The people want a single-payer, universal healthcare system where no one chooses between sickness or financial ruin. Our for-profit “sickcare” system forces millions into significant, unpayable medical debt.
“Medical debt” should not exist. And yet it does, and it causes immense misery. This is why New Orleans DSA, Indivisible Nola, and WHIV are proud to partner with Undue Medical Debt to erase medical debt in Orleans, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany Parishes. Our Health Justice Working Group is joining this community partnership to eliminate medical debt and move towards building healthier, stronger communities.
Every dollar donated erases $100 of medical debt, with a goal of raising $15,000 by April. Collectively, we can show that community solidarity through small donor dollars can address societal needs. Please share our donation link widely with friends and family. We are setting up fundraisers in the coming months; please join us at the next Direct Service & Health Justice meeting on October 13 if you are interested in helping us plan for these events. Thank you for helping to support our community and erase medical debt!
Bulletins

Bringing the Party Back on Saturday, October 24
Voter turnouts of 28% and 18% stuck us with Jeff Landry and Liz Murrill, who rigged the maps and stole Calvin Duncan’s election. Chapter comrades are organizing citywide mobilizations to build excitement about early voting.
The October 24 Early Voting Tailgate at Chateau Menteur, 8726 Chef Menteur Hwy, will culminate in a second line to the polls at 1:30 pm. That same day downtown, we’ll have a Critical Mass bicycle takeover, a costumed Société Des Champs Elysée streetcar ride, Uptown and Treme second lines, and an Early Voting Rally at City Hall. “Wake Up N Vote” will provide free coffee and donuts near Algiers and City Hall early voting sites. We want to create one of the city’s biggest annual festivals , so volunteer and we’ll see you there!

Election Day is Tuesday November 3, 2026. Special education teacher, DSA member, and longtime United Teachers of New Orleans (AFT Local 527) member Lauren Jewett is running for Congress in LA-01, which covers much of the Greater New Orleans metro, Lakeview, and parts of Uptown and Mid-City. She’s fighting for public schools and their teachers; Medicare for All, reproductive freedom, and keeping our hospitals open; paid family leave and universal childcare for every worker; restoring our coast with union jobs; and ending the billionaire takeover of our government.
