Resolving Organizational Contradictions

In Mao’s Essay, “On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People,” one of the most striking passages addresses one of the most important aspects of our work: interpersonal conflict.

The issues we have amongst ourselves and the issues we have between us and our enemy, the capitalist system, are fundamentally different. Between us, we have non-antagonistic contradictions. Between us and this illegitimate system, we have antagonistic contradictions. We must always remember that issues between us are secondary to the issues that plague us societally.

Our focus must be on the real issues; our internal contradictions must be handled with the intentions reflected in our DSA Guidelines for Respectful Discussion: always assume good faith in your fellow comrades.

It is inevitable that we will come into conflict with each other, either personally or politically. In our own chapter, our membership runs the gamut of opinions on how to win the future, from anarchism to Marxism-Leninism, and beyond. But the one thing that binds us together is the knowledge that we must work together to build a more equitable society. When we enter into disagreements, remember that your comrade is here for the hard work, too. To abridge Alexander Pope: to err is human, but to admit to your faults and keep an open mind to the width and breadth of experience, that is divine.

So fellow comrades, keep in mind our shared enemy and continue the work we all believe in with the best intentions between us. Address each other with open minds when we feel wronged or challenged, and enjoy the growth that comes with learning and understanding our journey to a better place in history.

Eye on Surveillance Community Scouting Day

Join us on a walk around downtown to get trained on how to scout, identify, and map out some of the hundreds of Project Nola cameras that spy on our community every day. Be part of a community-led effort to map out these secret cameras, which pose a danger to our privacy and well being. Meet at Washington Square at the corner of Royal and Frenchmen, tomorrow at 2:00 pm.

The Fork and Knife Club Food Distribution Event Was a Huge Success!

We had 31 volunteers, plated 170+ meals and collected A LOT of grocery donations that we were able to distribute to all but one community fridge in New Orleans, plus one fridge in Westwego. Thank you to everyone who helped feed our community. If you’d like to keep the momentum going, please sign up for our upcoming Brake Light Clinic on December 13th at 11am-2pm. On top of distributing hot meals, health supplies, drinks, and snacks, we’re also going to have a coat drive. You’re free to drop off coats day-of, at our GM on the 22nd, or contact Tristan R or Matt B on where we can get it from you in between.

Get Chevron Out of French Quarter Fest

DSA and others are campaigning to kick Chevron Out of French Quarter Fest in April 2026. We will be meeting at the New Orleans Healing Center for our first Teach In event on November 18th at 5:30 pm. Make sure to come out and learn from expert speakers about Chevron’s impact directly. Sign the Petition to Say No to Angola’s Camp J for ICE Detention

Governor Landry re-opened the Camp J area of the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola as an ICE detention center. Known as “the dungeon,” Camp J is a site so brutal and inhumane that it was shut down due to its deplorable conditions. This is part of Landry and Trump’s broader, deeply racist, and anti-immigrant agenda. They want to further criminalize, cage, and dehumanize Black, Brown, and immigrant communities in order to enrich their donors and hold on to power.
