Submarine Halloween Gala This Friday Night!

Hey everyone! The fundraising working group is very excited for our DSA Halloween Event on Friday from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm at Venusian Gardens! The theme is Submarine Halloween, so please bring your fabulous oceanic and underwater-themed costumes! We will be having a raffle and costume contest, drinks, fajitas, and some spooky camaraderie on the dancefloor. Children are welcome with adult supervision. This is open to members and non-members, so bring your friends before you head out for late-night fun!

Suggested $15. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

We do have a few outstanding needs for this event:

  1. We are looking for members who are willing to contribute food and beverages for this event. Fajita ingredients (e.g., steak, chicken, veggies), tortillas, fixings (e.g., sour cream, cheese, guac, salsa, etc.). Sign up here.
  2. Volunteers to check people in, manage the raffle table, and assist with set-up and breakdown.
  3. If you have items for raffle, let us know!

Thank you and please reach out with any questions!

LSU New Orleans YDSA: Autumn Harvest, Project NOLA, and What’s Next –Artemis Crocker

The LSU New Orleans YDSA chapter has seen a lot of change in the past few weeks! I’m here to keep the greater chapter informed!

First, our Autumn Harvest! LSU New Orleans YDSA is hosting our Autumn Harvest food, clothing, and health drive! On October 29th and 30th and November 2nd – 4th, from noon to 2:00, the YDSA chapter will be collecting donations in person in the University Center! Please consider dropping off some donations! Anything left over after distributing these supplies directly to in-need students in their dorms will be donated to the New Orleans chapter for the upcoming Winter Clothing Drive or Fork and Knife Club.

Next is the status of the Surveillance Out of Schools campaign! The chapter is proud to report an INCREDIBLE victory. Project NOLA, a local mass AI surveillance company, is officially being evicted from the LSU New Orleans TRAC Building. We will be shifting the campaign’s focus towards preventing Flock, Axon, and Project NOLA from surrounding our campus with cameras like they have with Tulane and LSU Baton Rouge’s campuses. Please come join us for our public demonstration in the quad (out front of the Earl K. Long Library) on Halloween day from noon to 3:00 so we can show the administration exactly what students, faculty, and New Orleanians think about mass AI surveillance.

Direct Service & Health Justice: Undue Medical Debt Fundraiser and Brake Light Clinic Updates

Our next Direct Service meeting is Tuesday, October 27, at 6:00 pm, online. Join us in planning our next Fork & Knife Club for November! We are thrilled to have you, however you can contribute.

Our Crush Medical Debt Campaign with Undue Medical Debt, Indivisible NOLA & WHIV has raised $725 so far toward our $15k goal. We are planning fundraising events for this campaign for both November 19th at 7:30pm at The Dog House for a comedy show and December 10th at Allways Lounge at 10:30pm. Flyers are available at the Healing Center if you’re able to drop some off to display in local businesses. If you’d like to donate please click here.

Our Winter Clothing Drive will be accepting donations of coats, socks, beanies, and other winter clothes (clothes for all ages welcome) for our Brake Light Clinic in December.

Direct Service always accepts donations for supplies.

To learn more, check in with our Immigration working group at the next General Meeting or drop any questions in the immigration-advocacy chat on Discord.

Mark your calendars for November 7 for our next social!

Election Day is Tuesday November 3, 2026. Special education teacher, DSA member, and longtime United Teachers of New Orleans (AFT Local 527) member Lauren Jewett is running for Congress in LA-01, which covers much of the Greater New Orleans metro, Lakeview, and parts of Uptown and Mid-City. She’s fighting for public schools and their teachers; Medicare for All, reproductive freedom, and keeping our hospitals open; paid family leave and universal childcare for every worker; restoring our coast with union jobs; and ending the billionaire takeover of our government.
