Vote Lauren Jewett for US Congress District 1 Tomorrow

DSA candidate Lauren Jewett has been a classroom teacher for nearly two decades, and recently taught at the city’s only district-run public school, the Leah Chase School. Her deep commitment to socialism has earned her our endorsement in her last two campaigns. She’s been a longtime member of the United Teachers of New Orleans union and advocates for returning the charter school system to community-run schools that answer to a democratically elected school board. She advocates for accessibility justice, labor organizing, and fair election maps free of gerrymandering. Jewett has been vocal about abolishing ICE, adopting a moratorium on new data centers, and moving away from a fossil fuel economy. She refuses to accept any corporate PAC money, including from AIPAC. During our chapter endorsement Q&A, Jewett stated her opposition to sending US military aid to Israel due to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, noting she does not want taxpayer dollars spent on military aid and bombs that harm children and families, and advocating instead that these funds support basic quality of life needs like education and healthcare.

In addition to the our chapter’s endorsement, local endorsements include the AFL-CIO, VOTE, Independent Women’s Organization, Forum for Equality, and national organizations like Everytown for Gun Safety, Center for Freethought Equality, Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence, Courage for Democracy, National Organization for Women, and more. Jewett has earned endorsements from the local Democratic party and aligned organizations like IDEA and Indivisible NOLA.
